Need a reason to kick box? Justin Bieber and his posse are waiting…

June 18th, 2013

In case you haven’t noticed, Justin Bieber has turned into a holy terror. You never know when he and his body guards are going to strike again. On top of that he is working on his hands with a few of the best ever.

This is just another great reason to try kick boxing.

When I started kick boxing, I was big into power lifting and eating 4000 calories a day to try and pack on as much mass as I could. I thought being in good shape meant that you could dead lift a Kia Rio. Boy was I wrong. By the time I finished my workout I had to crawl out the door. Once I came too out of my post workout haze, I was hooked. On top of that, it’s the best stress reliever ever.

There’s nothing like having an awful day and then unleashing the fury in the gym. The best workout I ever had came after my dog used the bathroom in the floor, my cat decided my bathroom counter would be an ideal place to throw up, my usual 25 minute trek to work took almost an hour, and it was the day to make my student loan payments.

I had a catharsis on the wrecking ball bag. When I was done, I almost forgot why I had been so stressed when I got there. Besides the day my ducks were born, I rank the end of that workout as one of the greatest moments of my adult life.

Learning how to punch and kick the right way really gives you a whole different level of confidence when you are walking through a dark parking lot frantically searching for your long lost car. It’s so much easier to walk through 18 rows of cars when you aren’t worried about somebody popping out at you and breaking into “Beat It” by Michael Jackson.

So if you see a ridiculously overpriced car speeding through your neighbor hood with “Baby, baby, baby, ooooo” blaring on the speakers, have no fear. Not only can you tell the Biebs to slow down, but you can go all Keyshawn Johnson on him.

Are all hand wraps created equal?

June 13th, 2013

kickboxing hand wrapsAside from just looking cool in your “fist pump” face book photo; the hand wrap serves a very important purpose. The primary function of a good hand wrap is to protect your hand and wrist from injury. Without the proper protection the small bones within your hand could be easily damaged. Contrary to what some may believe, not all wraps are created equal. The most popular, and most effective hand wrap is what is called a “Mexican-style” hand wrap. This is the style that we use at all 9Round locations. This type of wrap is ideal for any form of boxing training or workout. The Mexican-style wrap works similar to an ace bandage to create somewhat of a soft cast to pad your knuckles and support your wrist. Another added bonus is that the wrap also helps to fill up space in the boxing glove to create a nice snug fit. There are dozens of ways to wrap your hands. Fortunately, there is not much of a wrong way to wrap, so you can easily customize it to your personal preference.

Recently a new style of wrap has become popular due to speed and convenience. Some people are beginning to use a slip-on gel wrap, or as I like to call them “those stupid gel things”. The gel wraps are basically a fingerless neoprene glove with gel padding over the knuckle area. It looks similar to a MMA glove. Although these wraps are much quicker to take on and off, they generally do not offer very much wrist support. The wrist wrap portion actually wraps below the wrist joint and doesn’t do much more than keep the wrap on. The gel padding also offers very little protection for a heavy hitter, and tends to move around quite a bit. You also lack the one-size-fits-all convenience of the Mexican-style wrap.

If you really want to train like a pro the Mexican wrap is the way to go! I think you would be hard pressed to find any real boxer training with anything else.

Autism and the Fitness Industry

Autism at 9round

Over the course of my career as a trainer I have worked with clients from all areas of life with every possible physical disability you can imagine. Whether it be bad knees or a bad back, I have seen it all. An area that I have only recently been working in, is with clients with special needs, especially clients that are on the Autism spectrum. In the fitness industry as a whole, they are the group that seems to be given the least attention even though they can gain so much from it!

When a person with Autism turns 21, they lose their entitlement benefits that help with physical therapy, and at that point its up to their guardians to figure out what they can do to help them stay active, this is where 9Round is going to be a fantastic avenue for them. During the 9Round workout you use every part of your body working together as a unit, which is great for everyone, but especially great for people with special needs.

At 9Round you have a trainer with you every step of the way and a new fun and exciting workout every day. From my experience, I have yet to see a special needs client not enjoy every second of their workout. The bilateral integration they get from working both sides of their body really helps to establish the link between their brain and their body with can lead to decreases in “rocking” or other movements that can be associated with their special need.

If you have a friend or family member who has special needs I encourage you to come see what 9Rounds is all about, you won’t be disappointed! Don’t forget, the first workout is FREE!!

Franchise Business Review’s Top Low-Cost Franchises

June 7th, 2013

9Round Kickboxing, the 30 minute fitness program, was recently featured in the Franchise Business Review for being a low-cost Franchise opportunity.

Franchise Business Review’s Top Low-Cost Franchises looks at the top low-investment franchise opportunities based on their annual franchisee satisfaction research into hundreds of leading franchise brands. This report highlights the top brands for low-cost franchises based exclusively on satisfaction, and they dig into what potential franchisees should consider as they research low-investment opportunities.  Investing in a business is never without risk, but this list is a great place to start.  9Round Fitness was first on this list in the fitness category along with Baby Boot Camp and Fitness Revolution.

One of the things that makes 9Round so attractive is the low start up cost.  There are no expensive machines like tread mills, elliptical, TV’s, or expensive barbells.  Along with a smaller foot print, the average 9Round location is 1200 square feet, there isn’t a lot of inventory to keep in stock.  Which is key for a small business to cash flow and turn a profit.

Another perk of a membership based business is the opportunity to build recurring revenue.  9Round has a powerful billing and collection software which allows the club owner to focus on training and delivering quality customer service to each client.  We like for our club owners to focus on what they do best, training clients, and not have to worry about collecting payments.

A successful 9Round Franchise can be ran with anywhere from 1-4 employees which keeps labor cost down to a minimum.  The corporate office, which is based out of Greenville SC, helps the club owner with site selection, lease negotiation, build out, and they also provide each owner with a 9am-5pm on call account manager for support.

If you are interested in the 9Round Franchise opportunity please visit www.9Round.com and fill out a Franchise Request for Consideration.

The 3 Enemies

May 23rd, 2013

I was reading a few pages in my favorite book this morning “Think And Grow Rich” and came across something interesting.  The page was talking about our 3 enemies which are indecision, doubt, and fear.  The book reads exactly “Indecision is the seeding of fear! Indecision crystallizes into doubt, the two blend and become fear!  The “blending” process often is slow.  The is one reason why these three enemies are so dangerous.  They germinate and grow without their presence being observed.

This passage reminds me of what makes the most successful people so successful.  Whether you are looking to start a workout program for the first time, start a business, purchase a 9Round franchise, or chose what your going to eat for lunch.  The principals are the same.  The most successful people get enough information and then they trust their gut.  Once they have that, they are extremely decisive and make huge decisions very fast.

It’s time for YOU to master the 3 enemies and begin your success today!! If you are interested in owning your own 9Round Franchise, click on the franchising tab and fill out the Request for Consideration Form today!  We can’t wait to hear from you!!

Kickboxing Fitness Program 9Round Named One of Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top 500 Franchises

May 7th, 2013

Entrepreneur Magazine’s listing of 9Round as one of the top 500 franchises points the way to success for entrepreneurs who are eager to break into the fitness industry with their own franchise.

9Round, a kickboxing fitness program that provides a unique workout experience that takes just 30 minutes, has been named one of Entrepreneur Magazine’s top 500 franchises for 2013.

With 38 locations, 36 of which are franchises and two of which are company-owned, 9Round blends boxing and kickboxing with cardiovascular and circuit training that members quickly complete under the guidance of an expert trainer. Entrepreneur Magazine ranked 9Round 443rd in its list of the top 500 franchises.

The fitness company was founded in 2007 and began franchising in 2009. “We are proud that Entrepreneur Magazine has recognized 9Round as one of the top 500 franchises,” said 9Round founder and CEO Shannon “The Cannon” Hudson. “As one of the nation’s fastest growing fitness franchises in the United States, we are honored that our program is receiving such critical validation, and we expect that this will help us continue to expand our presence as we do our part to get America fit and healthy.”

Using dumbbells, heavy bags, medicine balls and kettle balls, participants do their workouts in a proprietary system using nine workout stations. Franchisees are attracted to 9Round because of the low startup costs and the fact that the business can be run with just one or two employees.

9Round: Fitness Kicks Its Way into Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top 500 Franchises

May 7th, 2013

Fitness, Your Life

If you are one of the small percentage of Americans who exercise regularly — according to a 2011 Center for Disease Control study, only about two in ten Americans get the recommended amount of daily exercise — you probably consider fitness the lifestyle of your choice. However, ascertain one of 9Round’s franchise licenses and you can call fitness your life.

Fighting to the Top

9Round began as a single gym corporation in 2007. 9Round’s mixture of martial arts and health fitness quickly spread in popularity and by 2009 it was franchised. There are currently 36 franchise units in the United States. One of the most appealing aspects of opening a franchise is the low start-up and maintenance costs, part of the reason 9Round made it into the top 500 of Entrepreneur Magazine’s franchises.

Cost of Becoming a 9Round Franchisee

The franchise fee is $18,000 and the total investment is only between $40,000 and $52,000. The initial costs include your franchise fee, remodeling — or build-out — of the fitness center, your lease and first month’s rent. More importantly, it includes three months of operating capital to get you started off on the right foot.

Overhead

One of the reason the cost of becomine a 9Round franchisee is so low — in relation to other fitness franchises — is because there is no equipment. In addition, the total square footage required to operate a 9Round business is only between 1,200 and 1,500 square feet. Finally, running a 9Round business only requires 1 to 3 part-time employees that rotate shifts.

Why Me?

It’s not necessary to have a background in kickboxing to in order to become a 9Round franchisee. One of the benefits of owning a 9Round fitness center is the fact that the corporate office is committed to helping new franchisees develop a successful 9Round franchise unit of their own.

There is a network of 9Round franchisees, the members of which help one another strive to make the 9Round brand a rewarding and profitable enterprise. The network helps new franchise unit owners make the transition from a start-up center to a solvent business..
