Practicing proper form is not only essential for delivering your most efficient and powerful hits (which produce the greatest results), but it is also important for keeping the injury bug away. Here, we are going to focus on the execution of a proper side kick. 1. Stance - begin in your normal stance: your non-dominant side in front, knees slightly bent, hands up and elbows in 2. Chamber - while pivoting your supporting foot in the same direction as your body, bring the knee of your kicking leg up towards your chest and lean back for balance 3. Extension - extend your leg in a linear fashion toward the bag while flexing the abs; make contact with the heel 4. Recoil - after a quick strike on the bag, retract the foot back with control and balance 5. Plant - land your kicking foot into your normal stance and get ready for your next kick or punch! Sure, most of us are not training for an actual fight, but we want everyone to stay injury-free, and executing proper form is key in that process.
