Back to School = Back to Fitness

Summer can be a busy time with kids out of school, vacations, and so…many…barbeques (seriously, so much food). And as much as we’d like to say that multiple trips through the buffet line count as cardio, we wouldn’t be doing you any favors by lying. The good news is, the kids are going back to school (insert excited mom squeal here) and if you lost sight of your fitness goals somewhere between the Dairy Queen and the buffet line, we’ve got a few quick tips to help you get back on track.

 

Plan Ahead

It’s important that you are prepared for your workouts. If you don’t plan for it, you’ll find it’s really easy to end up skipping them. The first step is to take a look at your schedule and see where you can squeeze those workouts into your day. 9Round workouts only require 30 minutes of your day, as few as three times a week. Use half of your lunch break, get up just 30 minutes earlier, or stop by on your way home from work. Finding a 30-minute window to commit to, just a few times a week, will have you on your way to reaching your goals. For even more accountability, recruit a workout buddy!

 

Find Something You Enjoy

If you pick a form of exercise and you absolutely hate it, chances are you won’t stick with that routine. On the other hand, if you find an activity you enjoy, you’ll be a little more excited about working up a sweat. Often times, we get burnt out on the monotony of a single form of exercise – variety is, after all, the spice of life. At 9Round, workouts change every day to keep your mind and your muscles from getting bored, helping you stay excited and achieve better results.

 

Use Fast Effective Workouts

There aren’t many people who have the desire (or the time) to work out for hours on end, and you shouldn’t have to in order to achieve your desired results! 9Round’s kickboxing circuit allows you to get in an effective workout in just 30 minutes. Drop the kids off at soccer and still have time to go grocery shopping, enjoy a coffee break, and get your workout in before you have to pick up the kids. There is no losing (except in the form of inches) in this scenario.

 

 

Wear a Pedometer

A pedometer is a great way to be more active. Most experts recommend getting 10,000 steps each day.  By having a goal, such as reaching those 10,000 steps, it will motivate you to walk more. Taking more steps equals burning more calories. A simple pedometer is very inexpensive and many smart phones have health apps that track your steps and other health data. For even more fun and motivation, make a family challenge out of it! No one wants to be stuck on dish duty for a week for having the least amount of steps.

 

Include Your Kids

Get your kids out from behind those screens, tell them to leave the cell phone at home, and work in some family time while you work out! Bike riding, hiking, and even indoor trampoline parks are a great way to have fun and get fit as a family. Kids 10 or older can even join you for your workout at 9Round. And trust us, if you’re only asking them to take a technology timeout for 30 minutes and it involves kicking and punching things, you’re going to hear a lot less complaining.
