Burpee. The name alone can send shivers down our backs. However, the main reason that we or our trainers include them in our fitness routines is because there are so many benefits associated with the burpee. They happen to be one of the most effective and beneficial exercises that we can do, but I know we may not be thinking about the benefits of burpees as we are doing them. The only thing running through our head is usually, why am I doing this to myself. Well, I am here to tell you a few of the reasons that you may be doing this to yourself.
Burns mega calories. Burpees can burn a lot of calories in a fairly short amount of time, especially since they are an intense total body workout. They are even known to boost your metabolism, which causes you to burn more calories throughout the day, long after your burpees are over.
No complicated equipment. There is no complicated equipment needed to perform a burpee. All you need is enough space to safely stretch out and some motivation. You can do them just about anywhere anytime. You can bust out a few at home, the gym, your office or outside.
Fit easily into your daily fitness routine. You can easily add a few burpees to your daily fitness routine to kick it up a notch. Burpees can supercharge your cardio routine or get your heart pumping in between your weight lifting sets. You can squeeze them in anywhere you like because they are the perfect addition to any fitness routine.
Increases strength. Burpees use every muscle in your body; therefore, as you do more burpees the stronger your entire body will become. With each rep you are working your abs, arms, chest, hamstrings, quads and glutes. So, add a few more to your routine to see how much stronger you can get.
Increases your endurance. Burpees are a great way to increase your endurance and improve your overall body conditioning. They are great at getting your heart pumping, and the fact that they involve your entire body ensures that you will quickly start seeing results.
Burpees may seem like a medieval torture device to some, but they are truly a great way to get the results that we want. You should try adding a few to your fitness routine ASAP just to see how quickly you will be able to see results. It is really amazing at how one little exercise can speed up our fitness journeys.
