Get Physical & Knockout Breast Cancer!

Every October, Americans everywhere go pink to raise awareness about breast cancer, support those who are fighting it, and honor those who lost their battle with the disease. 9Round hosts an annual Kick Event to raise money for breast cancer research, with one cent for every kick being donated directly to local and national breast cancer charities. One of the most impactful ways that 9Round can help in the fight against breast cancer is by giving people the tools to take control of their health through proper nutrition and exercise.

A lot of people talk about the impact that diet has on your health, especially when it comes to disease prevention. But the role that regular exercise plays in preventing and fighting disease doesn’t always get the attention it deserves. Research indicates that physical activity can have beneficial effects for several aspects of cancer survivorship - specifically, weight gain, quality of life, cancer recurrence or progression, and prognosis (likelihood of survival).

According to the National Cancer Institute, consistent evidence links physical activity after diagnosis with better breast cancer outcomes. For example, one study found that women who exercised moderately after a breast cancer diagnosis had approximately 40% to 50% lower risks of breast cancer recurrence, death from breast cancer, and death from any cause compared with more sedentary women.

9Round receives stories from members everywhere about the effect that physical fitness has had on their recovery and in their fight against breast cancer. Two-time breast cancer survivor and 9Round member turned franchisee, Lisa Witherow, had this to say about her fight with the disease:

“My doctors told me that my greatest hope for the future would be good nutrition and exercise- and by gosh I found it at 9Round. I needed guidance as I did not know what to do at the big box gym and motivation to keep going. I had a busy career and the 30-minute workout was a dream come true. 9Round made me feel empowered and in control of my situation. I began to see change and every follow up appointment with my doctors, I began to see a change on the scales. I became stronger and healthier as time went on.”

Now celebrating 10 years cancer free, 9Round member, Connie Wesolowski, said, I am so happy I found 9Round because it is the first gym that I have ever stuck with and excelled at.  9Round has given me so much strength, endurance, confidence, and my life back.  When you go through cancer you lose a lot, and you don't feel very attractive bald, or feel pretty because your body has changed.  Well, 9Round is helping me find that beauty in myself again.”
