How to Get Your New Year’s Resolutions Back on Track
Jan 25, 2021
By now, we know many of you might be starting to fall off track with those New Year’s resolutions you were so gung-ho about at the beginning of January. While, unfortunately, you can’t get back your lost time up to this point, you can still turn things around to be able to achieve your goals by the end of the year. So, get ready to let go of what’s been stopping you up to this point, and let’s figure out how to get yourself back on track with your New Year’s resolutions today.
Redefine Your Goals
If you haven’t made any progress toward your fitness goals at this point, then maybe they’re actually your problem. You see, sometimes we set ourselves up for failure by setting goals we don’t actually want to achieve. These are things that sound good to us on the surface, but when you go deeper, there’s nothing they actually bring to the table in terms of your personal happiness and success.
Perhaps you say you want to lose weight to improve your physical appearance, but in reality, you just want to become healthier. This could drastically change your goals, as being healthy doesn’t always mean you have to be “skinny.” Take a look at everything you originally set out to accomplish this year with your fitness routine, and make sure you redefine anything that’s lacking a deeper meaning. Choose goals that mean something more to you, so it’s almost impossible for you not to work toward them. Then, you can start over and get yourself back in the game with a greater drive to succeed.
Get on a Schedule
A major mistake people make at the beginning of the year when it comes to starting on their resolutions is thinking that things will just magically fall into place. This isn’t the case for most people because you have to make time to work out and prepare healthy meals in order to build these new habits. So, if you started off the year without a solid fitness plan, then get ready to set up a new schedule right now. Take out some pen and paper, or your phone’s digital calendar, and figure out when you can realistically fit in new activities each week.
Create a schedule and then follow through with what you plan, just like you would for your job or your family. You can decide when you want to work out, when you’re going to meal prep healthy lunches, and even when you want to weigh in to check on your progress. Planning things out with a dedicated schedule is going to help you avoid excuses for not doing things due to a lack of time, and it will also allow you to work on building healthy habits that fit perfectly into your weekly routine without question.
Track What You’re Doing
Relying on how you feel about the effort you’re putting into your fitness routine can be deceiving, as we often like to give ourselves more credit than we deserve. If you aren’t keeping track of your workouts or your diet, you don’t actually know how much you’re doing to further your goals, which may cause you to fall behind. To overcome any false feelings of productivity, it can help to start tracking everything you do. Keep tabs on how many workouts you complete and the macronutrients you’re consuming. This will allow you to know exactly how much effort you’re putting in each week, and you can adjust your schedule accordingly to make sure you’re on track with your fitness goals.
Pro Tip: Using our PULSE heart rate monitoring technology during every workout helps you understand how much effort you’re giving, so you know if you need to work harder or slow down to burn fat and improve your health.
Follow in Other’s Footsteps
Having a role model to look up to, whether it’s your well-disciplined friend who visits the gym every single day or a social media influencer you adore, can help you stay on track with your goals. Follow in their footsteps a little and try to mimic what they’re doing at first, so you can learn what it takes to have a regular fitness routine. This can help you begin building healthy lifestyle habits like going to the gym and eating healthy, even if you’re not sure where to start.
Then, once you’re more comfortable with what you know about working out and eating healthy, you can stop following others and create your own fitness routine with those basic habits already in place, which will make it easier for you to stay on track. Plus, you may even find a new friendship or connection along the way that can help encourage you to continue working toward your goals.
