How to Stay Fit During Your Summer Vacation

Helen Bush

Summer is in full swing, and most of us are getting ready to take a relaxing summer vacation. The majority of us are probably planning on heading to the beach and taking in some rays. However, while you are relaxing at the beach, don't avoid fitness altogether, just because you're out of your normal routine. There are many exercises that you can perform at the beach that are convenient and do not require any type of equipment. Here are just a few of my favorites.

Evening Stroll

Most people love a long walk on the beach, especially at night. We find the waves and the moonlight the perfect setting for a walk with our special someone. The temperature is also nicer and much cooler than in the daytime, and you get the added breeze from the ocean. The big plus is that you are able to schedule in some exercise without having to take time away from your vacation.

Morning Jog

Still an early riser on vacay? There's nothing as awesome as running and watching the sun rise over the ocean. You get a chance to explore your surroundings while most people are just waking up. It will be less crowded, and who knows maybe you will find some place interesting that you may never have known about. It is important to note that running on sand can actually be a quick recipe for a pulled muscle or ankle, so stick to side walks. Don't forget to shed your shoes and take a dip after you're finished!

Stretch  or meditate

The beach is a relaxing place for most of us; therefore, we could easily meditate and be more at ease for the stretching segment of our fitness routine. Not every "work out" has to be intense. Why not workout your brain?! Take 10 minutes sitting cross legged to clear your mind and let it go! The sound of the waves is the perfect back drop to this. Follow it with a few gentle full body stretches and you are truly relaxed now!

Keep it Simple

There are many exercises in your fitness routine that you can do at the beach. You can do burpees, mountain climbers, planks and many others. You can also try to add in some sprinting along the beach to get in some extra cardio. Why not do 25 push ups every time you flip over when tanning? Easy peasy! Swim out to the buoy twice every day and you're golden!

Just because you are taking a break in your normal schedule, does not mean that you have to take a break from fitness. The beach can be the perfect place to try new things on a slower pace. Remember: when you are exposed to a lot of sun, you need to wear sunblock, and the high temperatures make it necessary to drink a lot of water or sports drinks to ensure that you do not get dehydrated.

With the exponential growth of the 9Round Nation there is a good chance there's a location near your vacation spot. The first workout is always FREE and you’re guaranteed to have a smiling, knowledgeable personal trainer with you every step of the way.

Enjoy your summer :)
