How To Stick With Your Fitness Routine During the Holidays

Helen Bush

It is that time of year again. The holiday season is upon us. Most of us are going to be bombarded with delicious and fattening foods. Our busy and hectic schedules will become busier and more hectic, and our fitness routines will become harder to fit into our lives just when we need them the most. However, all you have to do to stay fit and healthy this year is to take a breath and stay focused on your current fitness routine. If you stay motivated and make sure to schedule in the necessary times for your workouts you should stay on track with your fitness goals.

Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday weight gain season for many of us, and the best way to help us curb those nasty food cravings is a vigorous exercise routine. Research has shown that if you exercise vigorously to moderately for forty five minutes first thing in the morning you can actually curb the desire for excess food throughout the day. So, the best thing to do is try to fit your fitness routine in early in the morning before your schedule gets too hectic, and you will reap the best benefits too.

Most of us celebrate the day after Thanksgiving as Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the holiday season. It is the day when everyone goes out in search of the best deals for Christmas. We could all use the extra exercise after our big turkey dinners, so why not take advantage of the time we spend shopping as a great way to fit in some well deserved physical activity. You can use a pedometer to help keep track of how much you walk from one store to another, and instead of getting angry or frustrated when you can not find a close parking spot use it to your advantage. You can watch your pedometer throughout the day and feel happy that you are working on your fitness goals during a time when it is hard to stay focused on them.

We all know this time of year we will be busy with all the holiday parties and fattening foods around us making our fitness routines more challenging for us to stick with, but you should always stay motivated. If you are determined to stay fit and healthy you will be able to stick to your workout routines.
