Why is Keto a No-No?
Many people today are turning to the "Keto" diet as a quick way to shed pounds. Although the keto diet has been shown to help in the treatment of epilepsy and some forms of cancer, many who do not follow the diet under advice from a physician or nutritionist are more likely to see short-term results that aren't sustainable in the long run. The “keto” diet is any extremely low- or no-carbohydrate diet that forces the body into a state of ketosis. Ketosis occurs when people eat a low- or no-carb diet and molecules called ketones build up in their bloodstream. Low carbohydrate levels cause blood sugar levels to drop and the body begins breaking down fat to use as energy.
Voluntarily cutting out carbohydrates is like siphoning out the gasoline from your car, replacing it with water and expecting your car to run. Not only will your car not run, but it will incur damage. The same holds true with the human body. Cutting out carbohydrates and replacing them with high fat foods and protein is a diet disaster in the making. Will cutting out carbohydrates lead to fast weight loss? Absolutely. But it’s almost guaranteed that you will regain some, or all, of the weight back.
We’ll break it down in terms that make it easy to understand. Check out these two very different breakfast options:
2 slices whole grain bread, 2 egg whites, 2 tsp peanut butter
318 calories, 51% carbohydrate, 25% protein, 24% fat
2 eggs, 4 slices turkey bacon
311 calories, 1% carbohydrate, 49% protein, 50% fat
These 2 meals are virtually identical in terms of calories. But the comparison stops there. Only one is fueling the body and the other is merely replacing the carbohydrates with FAT. You’re trying to lose weight, burn fat, and you’re not only depriving your body of the fuel needed to do so, but you’re doubling your fat intake?!
The fact is, your body needs carbohydrates. That doesn’t mean carb-loading with things like donuts and sub sandwiches on giant hoagie rolls. We are talking about high-octane, complex carbohydrates, such as whole grain bread and pasta, brown rice, oatmeal, etc. 9Round Nutrition helps to take the thinking out of the nutrition process for you. We help you break through the clutter and simplify the process of giving your body the fuel it needs to achieve your goals. Each meal and snack on 9Round’s website is properly balanced with the right amount of macronutrients (carbs-protein-fat). All you need to do is prepare the meals and snacks as prescribed and you will be fueling your body for success.
Don’t be fooled by the allure of quick weight loss schemes and fad diets. Sticking with your fitness regimen and following a balanced nutrition plan will help you reach your goals, and sustain long-term weight loss.
