Who wants to get muddy?


So, it seems like obstacle course racing is really hot these days. I know you’ve seen the pictures of people doing the army crawl under barbed wire and through the mud! There are a dozen or so different races happening all the time with many of them right here in NC. So maybe you have been thinking about entering one? They range in length from 3 miles to 12 miles! Which one is right for you?

Let’s look at what is considered to be the toughest race out there. It’s called Tough Mudder and it’s typically 12 miles long and full of obstacles to push you physically and mentally to your limits. Think of it as the Daytona 500 of Obstacle Course Racing. But before you enter a 12 mile race you may consider something shorter like a 5K. (3.1 Miles) They are still full of challenging obstacles but with a shorter distance. Some have goofy themes to them and some even offer a free beer at the finish line! So maybe you’re interested but haven’t been to a gym in years and think you could never be in good enough shape to enter a 5K obstacle course race.
