About the team
Dorothy is our operator & co- owner of 9Round Evanston. A level 3 certified kickboxer with the globally recognized World Thai Boxing Association. She ...actively competes in muay thai, and corners boxers. She also holds multiple certifications for holistic healing which she currently practices. Dorothy was never an athlete. She started training at the age of 30, then got obsessed with how much fun this is. She loves helping others attain success in fitness no matter where they start. More
Oliver is the assistant manager of 9Round Evanston and handles a lot of the weekend operations. Starting as a member in 2017, he worked hard and reali...zed 9Round was perfect for him. After losing almost 40 pounds, he was hired on as a trainer, and then quickly the assistant manager. As the winner of the first ever Heart Rate Monitor Challenge, he can definitely help you with all things Heart Rate Monitor. Oliver loves the 9Round community and surrounding himself with positive and motivated people! More
Yuzi the Uzi
Yuzi's whole family have been members at 9Round Evanston since 2016, and they love martial arts. Yuzi's fitness aspirations started with playing socce...r and cheerleading. She even knows how to ride a unicycle! At 9Round she is known for her chipperness as well as super positive and supportive attitude. Yuzi has fantastic form and is attentive in helping our members find success quickly with theirs. All of our members love when Yuzi runs the floor. More
Esther was a high school wrestler. She tried her first workout with 9Round Evanston, then moved to Brooklyn and became a devoted member there, success...fully completing over 140 workouts in 1 year and frequently winning the Challenge of the week (CHOW). Esther loves to train members and specializes in working with athletes who are looking for a challenge. The pad round is her specialty. Fun Fact: Esther hopes to be a firefighter in the future. More
Chris lives in Evanston and was one of the original founding members of 9 Round Evanston. Chris has been a fitness enthusiast his whole life. In lat...e 2015, he had double hip replacement and needed to find a new workout passion. Chris joined the club and learned the sport of boxing leading to his current record of 4-0 as an amateur boxer. When not boxing Chris is busy in professional life as the COO of a growing company and raising his two boys. More
Nina has identified as an athlete since she can remember. Growing up, she played every team sport. Now a senior at Northwestern, Nina discovered 9Roun...d in search of a personal challenge. To Nina, the 9Round workout is what you make it! It is all about the individual. She especially enjoys working with new members, helping set fitness goals to achieve with the support, encouragement and technique of the 9Round team! More

I LOVE Evanston 9Round! Dorothy and all of the other trainers are so supportive but also push me to be my best. I hadn't made it in for over a month due to holiday traveling and being sick but when I ... returned and apologized for my absence, Dorothy told me, "I'm just glad you're here now," which was exactly what I needed to hear to kickstart my healthy habits. As for the workout, it is one of the only workouts I actually have fun with. It's tough but quick and makes you feel invincible the rest of the day. I like the 9 distinct "rounds" (or "circuits"), each lasting 3 minutes with 30 seconds of vigorous "rest" in between. I can modify the round as I need, given any day's particular circumstance (tight h... ere, need to work better form there, balance could be better in this part). The boxing and kickboxing kinetics are like disciplined movements; they compel me to learn how the turn the vertical, rotate hips or shoulders, and start movements from the lowest extremities extending out through arms or legs. Since joining, I've learned how the whole body works together in a way that can create a very pleasant (and demanding) flow. This didn't happen at first; it takes time to learn. I love that its a complete work out, including cardio, in approximately 30 minutes. I also love that there is no set "class" time; you just go when you can and get started and there are trainers ther... e to guide you and keep you motivated. I especially like Sam, one of the trainers at Evanston. He has great energy and really knows how to motivate me without going over the top. He also ensures that you are doing proper technique so you don't injure yourself.
