"My name is Joyce. I am 43, and my story begins December of 2012 when I found out that my labrums were torn on both sides of my hips. At that time, the surgeon cut me off from the intense workouts I was doing at a small boxing gym. The next month, I started to have pain in my right shoulder which eventually led to frozen shoulder. After a few medical procedures, I started working out again with a personal trainer with some modifications. In August, I started to have pain symptoms on the left hip (previously asymptomatic) and sought treatment from the surgeon again. In January 2016, I had another arthroscopic hip surgery to repair the labral tear on the left side.
After rehab and eating through the summer, I knew I needed to start working out again. Here's the thing, I hate to work out, but I LOVE to box. My good friend told me about 9Round and the format of the workout was what appealed to me. With my past medical issues, I need to modify a lot of moves. With rounds all to myself at 9Round, I was able to go at my own pace with my own modifications. I signed up at 9Round Kearny Mesa in San Diego, California in February 2017. It has been awesome! I am so excited to be boxing again! All of the trainers have been so wonderful. They push me to my max and also understand that I have limitations.
Unfortunately, in September, I started to experience some pain in the left shoulder. Despite these limitations, I still won the November PULSE Points Challenge! My physical therapist told me that I could no longer punch with my left hand. BUT I can still kick!!! The pain might stop my left hand, but it isn't going to stop me from walking through those doors to see Brandon and his trainers!
I will most likely have the left shoulder manipulated in the coming weeks and it will only temporarily stop me, but I will be back! I AM A FIGHTER! I AM 9ROUND! I AM UNSTOPPABLE!!"
