Motivational Techniques for Exercising

Most experts can pretty much agree that in order to stick to an exercise routine, you need to find a reason to carry on, even when that little voice inside you is telling you to get a glass of wine and relax on the couch. It is apparent that knowing all the benefits of exercising regularly is still not enough to get us up and moving. It can be hard for some of us to start an exercise routine after a lapse. It can be difficult to find our rhythm again and get back into our groove, especially if we are fitness newbies and out of shape. We need to find something that makes us overcome all of our fears and helps us stick with our fitness routine.

Be reasonable

Most people who are just starting a fitness routine tend to set unreasonable goals. They want to go all in and aim high, but this can be detrimental to your fitness routine. It can feel great thinking that you will start seeing results immediately, but you should know that this will not be the case. It takes time, and when people start out with huge goals, they are setting themselves up for failure. We will become frustrated and upset when we do not see the results that we want, and this may lead to us giving up on our fitness routine. However, if you focus on smaller goals, such as being able to workout longer or adding an extra day to your fitness routine, you will see better results for your goals. This can give you the sense of accomplishment and allow you to stick to your fitness routine.

Keep a written record

Just as some people find it necessary to keep a food journal to stick to their diet, some people find it necessary to keep a fitness journal to stick to their fitness routine. A fitness journal is used to keep track of everything you did and how long you did it. With a written record, you can get a better sense of accountability and responsibility. You can easily see how much you are advancing and how close you are to reaching your goals. We can track our progress and see what areas may need improvement. This method is also a way to get a sense of accomplishment by allowing us to see our progress, and this can help us stick to our fitness routine.

Find something you love

It can be easy to stick to a fitness routine if you choose something that peaks your interest. For many of us, it is easy to look at exercise as work and not fun; however, if we can change this perception then we will be closer to achieving our goals. When you decide to start a fitness routine, you need to remember that you do not need to go to the gym and run for hours on a treadmill. There are so many different types of fitness routines out there for you to choose. You can choose zumba, kickboxing, yoga or even hiking. The options are limitless, so why not decide on something that gets you excited?

Have a set schedule

It can be difficult in our hectic lives to find enough time to exercise. It is important to make a schedule and stick to it. You have to view exercise as a top priority in your life. It is necessary for us to live a happy and healthy life, so it should be pretty high up on your list. This fact alone should be enough to make you find the time to do it, and for many of us this means that we will have to write it down or enter it into our online calendars. Whatever we need to do, we should do it. It is important to follow our schedule and try to eliminate as many distractions or interruptions from that block of time. Finding the time to exercise is many people's excuse for not exercising, so it is important to eliminate this excuse, in order to stick to our fitness routine.

Reward yourself

A fitness routine involves a lot of hard work and determination. It is not easy, and you should reward yourself if you are making progress. It is best to try to stay away from food for this because you may just undo all the progress you made, especially if you go on a binge. However, there are other things you may enjoy just as much as food. You can go buy some new clothes to fit your hot new body, flowers, jewelry, or even a vacation to flaunt all your hard work. You could go out to a sporting event, a dance club or a concert. The important part is to allow yourself a little indulgence to improve your mind-body connection. You need to remember the whole reason you are getting to savor this moment is because of all your hard work and determination. It can feel great that you are accomplishing something, and the reward just makes it feel a little bit better.

It can be difficult for us to kick start a new fitness routine. We need to find something that can get us up and going. It can be hard to find out what motivates us and to find the courage to go after it. However, in the long run your body will be thanking you for all your hard work.
