Eating Right...It's As Easy As Breathing

Somewhere in this mix of diets and food fads, we have moved far away from the principles of nutrition, human physiology and how to eat right and properly fuel the body. Truly, eating right is as easy as breathing. Unfortunately, in this world of diets (what is a DIET? It’s a Disaster Imminent Every Time®) and food fads that we live in, the waters have become muddy.


Breathing; it's something we do not even think about, we simply breathe. We just do it; we don't think, "okay, I better now take a breath in through my nose and then I better remember to exhale as well." Right? That does not happen. You just breathe baby. And that is how easy nutrition should be as well. What if someone were to come up with some brand-new way to breathe? And in order to follow this brand-new way of breathing, you have to follow these steps:

  1. Take a deep breath in through your mouth.
  2. And then hold your breath for 30 seconds.
  3. While holding your breath for 30 seconds, squat down as far as you can and hold this position.
  4. And at the same time, raise your arms in the air, over your head
  5. While in this squat position, pick one leg off the ground
  6. And finally, close your eyes, as this will help to increase lung capacity


And this is how you have to breathe all throughout your day. That makes no sense whatsoever, does it? I would hope your response would be something like, ‘Wait, what??’ You look at that and realize that this method of breathing is really bizarre. You have been breathing just fine. You don't even think about it. You just breathe.


Well, those 6 steps above on this "amazing new breathing fad", is no different than the latest, greatest food fad and diet. They are all as off the wall as that nonsensical breathing technique. But the difference is this; individuals jump on the nonsensical diet bandwagon, time and time again.


Bottom line is this, eating right is as easy as breathing. Let's get back to the basics and let's get back to the principles of human physiology and nutrition. Because they work, every single time and they work to perfection. Just like breathing works without you having to think about it, eating right works and is just as easy.


 There are a few key principles we want to implement for success. Now, you may ask, ‘Success for what?’ Well, everything; whether one’s goals are body transformation, improve athletic performance and/or improve overall health & fitness, eating right works every single time. We simply have to fuel the body right away upon awakening and every 3 hours thereafter all throughout the day. That’s is, just do that and you will be way ahead of the game.


And then at every meal and snack, be sure to have the proper balance of carbohydrate-protein-fat (and no, vegetables are not carbohydrates. 1c steamed vegetables has 5g carbohydrate, that’s NOT a carbohydrate source. 1c whole wheat pasta has 37g carbohydrate; Now that’s a carbohydrate source!)


That’s it, it’s that simple. Fuel the body right away upon awakening and every 3 hours thereafter all throughout the day. And have the proper balance of carbohydrate-protein-fat at every meal/snack. (45-65% carbohydrate, 15-30% protein, 15-30% fat). Again, think of it like breathing; meaning that, don't think about it at all, just implement and follow through. You don't question how to breathe. Therefore, let's do the same with our nutrition. Let's get back to the solid basics of carbohydrate-protein-fat.
