Thirty minutes was all Jon Shafeei needed.
The former mechanic runs half marathons and lifts weights regularly but had a hard time doing a 30-minute circuit training routine at a 9Round fitness and kickboxing gym.
So he decided to open one.
“I was sold on the business model and idea,” said Shafeei, whose 9Round franchise opened Saturday in Raleigh. “I thought I was in good shape with the running and lifting weights, but this had me feeling like I was completely tired after 30 minutes.”
9Round workouts consist of nine, three-minute stations of activities that include cardio, weight training, abdominal exercises and kicks and punches on 100-pound, double-end, upper cut and speed bags.
Routines start every three minutes, so members can work out whenever the gym is open.
The exercises change every day, and Shafeei and his trainers design the routines. Trainers are on hand to help and guide members through their workouts.
The 1,300-square-foot gym offers monthly memberships that range in price from $49 to $59, not including a $99 enrollment fee, and has a yearlong program that’s $499 if paid all at once. Initial workouts are free.
Memberships include wrist wraps, boxing gloves and an online nutrition program. Shafeei’s place is the gym’s first Raleigh location and the second in the Triangle.
9Round is at 1131 Falls River Ave., next to Dollar General in Falls River Village.
