Shannon “the Cannon” Hudson, Founder and CEO of 9Round Franchising is pleased to announce the grant of a franchise to Phillip Evans, of Greenville, SC and native Virginian, of multi-gym development rights to open 9Rounds in Richmond, VA. Phil, along with his general manager and lead trainer, Mark Wood, of Richmond, VA.
Said Shannon, “Phil has had a long time love for 9Round and is an outstanding businessman. His business experience, love for fitness, and long time interest in launching his own fitness gym, makes for a perfect combination. Mark Wood is a long time fitness enthusiast and trainer. He knows the lay of the land in the Richmond fitness community and will be an outstanding trainer.”
Here’s Phil’s story on how he became a 9Round franchise owner:
“I walked into the 9Round on Pelham Road in Greenville in November 2010 looking for a new way to improve my fitness. I had been a member of a “big box” gym, but I never knew what I should do when I went there; I usually ended up spending 30 minutes on the elliptical and then deciding I was so pushed for time, I didn’t use any of the strength training equipment. I’m the type of person who really needs a trainer to tell me what to do and to push me. After one workout at 9Round, I was hooked. It was exactly what I needed, and I’ve gone 3 times a week religiously since then.
Fast forward to the summer of 2012. I’m at my youngest son’s lacrosse tournament in Charleston, SC and the kids are sitting under a 9Round tent. I then discovered that the dad of one of the boys, Matt Marthinson, is the owner of the 9Round down there. We got to talking about 9Round as a business, and he really piqued my interest. I got the materials, did my due diligence, found a partner for the market I really wanted (Richmond, VA) and signed my agreement earlier this month. I’m a Virginia native, and I spent a couple of years working on a sports project in the Richmond area. I thought it would be a perfect market for 9Round. I’m looking forward to opening my first gym in the first quarter of 2013, and hope to open another couple within the next year or two.”
