About the team
Matthew has owned and operated 9Round in Louisville for well over 5 years now. Born and raised in Louisville, Matthew has a clear passion for this cit...y and the people in it. He is extremely passionate about the members in his gyms, and just getting to know people, in general. Chances are, if you've met Matthew one time, he'll remember your name. An extensive background in mma, muay thai, kickboxing, boxing, and jiu jitsu, as well as experience in the fitness industry, has given Matthew the knowledge and passion he needed to successfully operate a gym like 9Round. If he's not training members at 9Round, chances are that Matthew's working from home with a cup of coffee, running errands, training, dancing , working out, or eating massive amounts of food somewhere in the Highlands area. 9Round is by far the most fun, upbeat, and challenging class type I have taken! I love the energy and the trainers encourage just the right amount. The community is incredibly positive! The trainers and other 9rounders are always very encouraging. I'm not a very fit person and I've always been self-conscious at gyms. 9round is the FIRST gym I've ... very gone to where I feel totally comfortable. It allows me to push myself and try harder because I'm not worries about other people judging me or making comments. There was once instance where two friends were teasing each other (I rest of course) while working out. The trainer Matt politely told them that negativity was not allowed here. I don't think he knows what an impact that had on me. Those two girls were clearly very fit and physically capable, and them teasing each other made me reflect on how I'm not even close to their level, and I started my own negative self-talk in my head. The fact that Matt kindly told them to be positive made me feel so safe in that space. Clearly the two friends were having fun with each other and just being silly, but thanks to Matt my self-conscious was shut down and I was able to do a good workout without worrying about how good or bad I was relative to anyone else. I cannot thank the 9round team enough for this community they've built, and I would happily recommend this establishment to everyone I meet that wants to better their health. I am getting stronger, which is super exciting. I have had five knee surgeries, so I wasn't sure if I could even do this workout. It has been exhilarating ! And freeing! The trainers help me adapt my ... workout (for example, round kicks don't work for me), so I do front kicks and other things. And I sweat and sweat and I love it. I am so thankful for this workout!! I really like that the staff know my name. That's really cool, I've been part of several gyms and they may speak when you sign-in but they've never taken the time to actually learn my name. I love t... hat the workouts are only 30 minutes and you can pretty much come at any time and jump right in. Hands-down: the trainers!! If it weren’t for them, i wouldn’t have the motivation to go in! I wouldn’t push myself, I’d still be doing what i was doing and getting no results. They make me want to get... better. They make me want to learn new skills and try new moves, they show me how and help me work up to harder things. They inspire me to grab heavier weights, to go faster, and to just plain stick with it. Dede Kelley is my hero and has personally helped me lose almost 20 pounds, countless inches, and get out of plus size clothing. She’s inspired me to win the fall fitness challenge, and I’m entered to win the spring challenge. I have about 30 more pounds to lose and i have no doubt that 9round will get me there.
