Johanna grew in the Twin Cities on a hobby farm. She has had family in Duluth, hence her family's desire to move to the Northland 2016. Johanna was a member at 9Round in the Cities and instantly became addicted to the workouts - eventually going 5 days a week! She was previously never involved in sports and did not consider herself athletic but found her interest in kickboxing as "something that worked". There was no 9Round near Duluth at the time, but Johanna and her husband (married in 2005) decided to pursue opening a first-ever location like this in Duluth. In 2017, 9Round Kickboxing in Duluth opened, and has been operating in the Kenwood Shopping Center since.

When Reese isn't at the gym you may spot him next door, working at Perk Place Coffeehouse. He was active in gymnastics for over 5 years. He has two dogs, Loki and Wally, Loki is a pure bread Belgian Milionis and Wally is a Boston terrier. Two of his favorite shows are Supernatural and Arrow. He loves being involved in fitness because it makes him feel happy and successful in his day-to-day life. He learned about 9Round from his good friend (who happened to be a past trainer at 9Round). He got into fitness from a family friend that was in gymnastics and his parents had him try it and he ended up loving it.

Curtis grew up in Colorado and moved to Minnesota in 2011. He moved to Duluth for college in 2018, majoring in Integrated Elementary and Special Education. Curtis grew up with fitness by learning Kempo Karate, kickboxing and Japanese Jiu Jitsu from his father (which he has been practicing for 19 years). He joined 9Round after looking for a way to practice martial arts and help spread healthful and routine fitness habits. He is a high energy person, and excited to work with members.

I have lived in Duluth for 18 years after originally coming here for school. I graduated from the College of St. Scholastica with a degree in social work. I have been a member of 9round for 3 years, and it has been the absolute best thing for my mental and physical health. I love being in such a great community surrounded by wonderful people. In my personal time I love concerts, being outdoors, and spending time with family.

I’ve been training family and friends for the past few years, and a few months ago I earned my CPT certification. I’ve always enjoyed working with people and helping them reach their goals, and here at 9Round I’m excited to do exactly that! I’ve been boxing for the past 6–7 years and am thrilled to be able to teach the sport that helped me achieve my own fitness goals. I also have strong practical knowledge of nutrition and am always happy to offer guidance and answer any questions our members may have.
