⚠️New Epidemic - Warns Surgeon General

SURGEON GENERAL WARNS ABOUT LONELINESS

Recently released by the surgeon general was an advisory about the harmful effects of the "loneliness epidemic." The data they outline in the 80 page report is downright scary.

Do you feel lonely? Are you connected with others? Or has the slow drain of the COVID pandemic made you question your connection to society?

This week, we want to share a few suggestions to consider if you feel isolated or lonely or know someone that does.

People

Who is your crew? What crowd do you run with? People with similar interests tend to congregate together. Can you define the "type" of person you are (or maybe you want to be)? Once you know the type of people you should hang with, it's easier to find out where they congregate (and join them).

Also, don't let labels define you. Maybe you want to be a different type of person (more confident, more secure, more successful, etc.), but now is the time to find your new tribe and make new connections.

Places

Where do we typically make friends?
Work, school, clubs, religious organizations, gyms, conferences, networking events, etc.

Most co-working relationships have disappeared (work from home), and when you work out at planet fitness, no one knows your name!

Finding small, tight-knit places to join and become a part of the community is a great place to start building new connections and friendships.

Things

Trying new things is the biggest barrier to finding new connections. Our comfort zone is the place we love the most. Binge-watching your favorite show beats getting dressed and going to a networking event where you don't know a soul.

Try new things with friends or make yourself accountable to those you trust to try one new thing a month (for starters).

The suggestions and information in this email are just the tip of the iceberg. The feeling of loneliness compounds and creates a cycle that is hard to get out of. If you struggle with any of these feelings, please talk to a professional and get help.

If you need a community you can find other people that are putting their health first, check us out! We are a small community gym that provides connection (we know everyone by name), social events (we just had a social outing few weeks ago), and fun ways to meet your neighbors (we all live close by).
